New Exhibition-
The Butterfingers Pictures: Silhouettes by Ian Beck

This exhibition presents Ian Beck’s latest illustrations, from the book Butterfingers, by J.M.Trewellard, published by David Fickling Books on 1st March. Ian Beck, described by The Times as ‘one of Britain’s greatest illustrators’, has illustrated over sixty books for children. For many of these he has written the story as well. Last year he published his first full-length novel for children, The Secret History of Tom Trueheart, Boy Adventurer, which he illustrated entirely in silhouettes – a new departure in his work.

He has continued to use silhouettes for Butterfingers, the story of a stable boy who sets out to rescue a princess from a monster, assisted by various animals. Beck writes: ‘Illustrating in this way is a little like ballet, where the gesture and shape of the character’s body reveal the story and emotion. At best the figures almost seem to dance across the page.’ The Nightingale Project is delighted to be exhibiting the illustrations for this new book, together with a selection from Tom Trueheart.

The original drawings will be exhibited and signed aquatints and giclée prints (including some individually hand-coloured ones) will be for sale.
